The Touch Diamond is HTC's latest attempt to take on the 3G iPhone and appears to be Apple's strongest competitor to date. It features 3.5G HSDPA connectivity, a slick 'TouchFLO' interface, Opera Internet browser and 3.2-megapixel camera.

 

HTC’s second iPhone competitor, the Touch Pro, is virtually indistinguishable to the Diamond except for a few key differences. The Pro only has one-quarter of the memory when compared to its counterpart, but it makes up for it by adding a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and front-facing video camera for video conferencing.

 

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is one of the most anticipated devices this year, boasting a new 'arc-slider' design, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and innovative interface. But a relatively large form-factor prevents the X1 from being as svelte as the iPhone.

 

The BlackBerry Bold features 3.5G connectivity (the first for a BlackBerry), a faster processor, an updated interface and a sharper screen. But rumors about an even newer touchscreen BlackBerry, codenamed “Thunder,” are circulating around the Web.

 

LG’s latest touchscreen phone focuses primarily on photography and features a 3.2-megapixel camera, face detection, xenon flash and image stabilization. The Dare also allows you to personalize your photos by using an on-board photo editing tool.

 

The Samsung Instinct includes many similar 3G iPhone features, but comes at almost half the price. At a reasonable $129 (after mail-in rebate and a two-year contract), the Instinct is the lowest-priced competitor in the group.

 

The Sidekick LX by Danger is the least-similar device to the iPhone, but a robust e-mail and IM experience coupled with a slick form-factor makes this T-Mobile exclusive a worthy contender.
